My Management Philosophy
I specialize in managing software development organizations — people, projects, and programs —
in small and medium sized companies.
The one word that best describes my career is "variety." I've worked at very large companies,
very small companies (the smallest was a two-person company, working out of the other guy's basement),
and several in-between. I've worked in a variety of roles: as a hands-on developer, project manager,
marketing product manager, director of professional services, and director of application development.
All of that variety gives me a breadth of perspective that I use when leading a team to resolve any issue or challenge.
The words that best describe my style are "result-oriented" and "team-oriented." The goal of most
software development organizations is to release high quality products in a timely and predictable manner,
and that's what I lead teams to focus on.
I think the team concept is extremely important.
Development, QA, Documentation, Product Management, Sales, Operations, Support, and other parts of the
company have to work together, not in silos of responsibility, to both deliver products
and continually improve processes.
